Today's talk by&nbsp\;Diversity Fellow Corey Miles&nbsp\;is "It¡¯s a Vibe: How Rural Hip-Hop Artists Construct Identity Outside of Mainstream Institutions."\n\nFree bagels and coffee will be provided.&nbsp\;\n\nThis talk centers on how rural black women and men have used hip-hop to construct black identity and subjectivity outside of major institutions in America. It suggests that rural black Americans use the term "vibe" to make aesthetic and affective judgments of individuals\, behaviors\, and institutions when the traditional English language is not nuanced enough to capture the essence of black experiences.\n
