Making a difference 4,400 miles from home
Trilinguist Cl¨¦mence Doumeng¨¨s, a graduate student from France¡¯s University of Pau, interned with Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø¡¯s French program this semester. In addition to team-teaching with Dr. Kiki Kosnick, she led or assisted with co-curriculars for all language students, including escape rooms!

The $316,276 grant awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services¡¯ National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders will fund the three-year project. Students in Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø's communication sciences and disorders department will serve as researchers, develop counseling materials, provide sound therapy, as well as collect and analyze data.

Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø students who have completed their undergraduate kinesiology degree, plus three bridge courses, can immediately transfer to WIU to complete the master of science degree. This allows students to meet both degree requirements in five years.

Juniors Lucas Fahnoe and Zachary Horve are co-recipients of the $5,500 Nils Hasselmo Award for Academic Pursuit. With majors representing the humanities, social sciences and STEM, both will use their award money to assist them on their way to careers addressing some of the world¡¯s most pressing concerns.
